Isla de Cabras

Andres Ramos

Enjoying our delicious food during your visit, be sure to visit Isla de Cabras, an little island extending over the bay of San Juan where you can have a scenic walk or jog, burn some calories and take some excellent photographs. Isla de Cabras is a short drive from the metro area.  Designated a National Historic Site, it houses Fortin (Fort) San Juan de la Cruz (also known as El Cañuelo), a small fort that was built by the Spanish in order to defend the entrance to the San Juan Bay.  Cool ocean breezes, picnic area, scenic vistas of Old San Juan and El Morro await at Isla de Cabras.

The little island offers bathrooms, snack bar and picnic facilities. The beaches are not for bathing, this is a place to relax, take pictures, enjoy the views and get some exercise.

Isla de Cabras is a nice stop and you can visit after a tour of the Bacardi Rum Factory. Bring your swimsuit along and visit the Blue Flag beach of Punta Salinas. Not too far from here you can also enjoy the beaches of the town of Manati.
